President of Rwanda: We are officially submitting an application for the right to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix

Rwanda has submitted an official bid to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Rwandan President Paul Kagame announced an application to host the race and active negotiations with Formula 1.
The organizers plan to build a new stationary track near Bugesera Airport, 40 km from the country`s capital, Kigali. Construction of the airport itself, costing $2 billion, is due to be completed in 2026.
I am pleased to officially announce that Rwanda is bidding to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix and bring the spirit of racing back to Africa. Many thanks to Stefano Domenicali and the entire F1 team. Discussions about holding the race are going very well. I assure you that we approach this opportunity with all seriousness and responsibility, ” Kagame said.
